I often love to read or listen to different books in my free time and I love to share the books that I find to be helpful! Here are my current recommendations:
"Eight Dates: Essential Conversations for a Lifetime of Love" by Drs. John and Julie Gottman
This is a fabulous book for couples who are trying to connect, get on the same page, and learn more about one another. I found this book to be extremely valuable and I encourage individuals in relationships to read this book for themselves and it is even better to read it with your romantic partner. The book examines 8 different core topics: Trust and Commitment, Addressing Conflict, Sex and Intimacy, Work and Money, Family, Fun and Adventure, Growth and Spirituality, and Dreams. The authors take the reader on a step-by-step practical guide on how to discuss these topics and grow within your relationship. Also, I love most Gottman books!
"The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom"by Don Miguel Ruiz
This book was on my "must read" list for a very long time. When I finally got around to it, I was a bit annoyed that I had not read it sooner! The author breaks down Four Agreements he has created: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, and Always Do Your Best. Each one of the agreements can be seen in multiple areas of life. As a psychologist, I know how helpful or how harmful our words can be and I often work with many people who make assumptions or take things personally without knowing it (and I admittedly do this myself at times too!). This book does discuss God and religion so I like to remind individuals that just because you may not connect with that aspect, it should not be a reason to turn away from this book!
"The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo
I know that this is not a clinical psychology book, but I will say there is a ton of information about ways to be organized, clutter-free, and have a mindful and relaxed space in your home. I learn about Marie Kondo first on her Netflix series and I loved getting to watch her help people to release their emotional connection to items that were no longer serving these individuals and were actually causing them stress and chaos. Emotional attachment to items can be very difficult and she creates a space of spirituality and connection that allows individuals to be mindful and aware of what they bring in and get rid of in their space. I personally do not follow the "all at once" method she encourages as I believe that can be too overwhelming for many people. I personally like to take parts of what she talks about and use it in my daily life.
